During this time of hybrid learning, our kids can run the gamut from being completely engaged and motivated in their school work to being disengaged, sleeping in and refusing to show up for school. As parents we can find ourselves in power struggles with our adolescents or worried about their social-emotional health. What is a parent’s role? What expectations are we to have of our children in this new school environment, and are they reasonable expectations? What role should our children play in creating their own learning experience? In this interactive 1.5-hour Zoom workshop, we will discuss challenges you and your child are facing with hybrid learning. We will give you practical tools and actionable strategies to help your child discover how learning works best for them. Topics to be discussed may include:
A parent’s role during hybrid learning
Helping middle school students take ownership of their at-home learning
Motivation
Stress management
Executive function and the adolescent brain
Setting boundaries
Screen use
Power struggles

One of their (and our!) biggest challenges is understanding their ever-changing thoughts and feelings. Because of their developing brains, these little ones don't yet have the skills to manage all of the strong emotions they are showing. Please join other parents and Rachel Wigglesworth to discuss your toddler's developmental stage and abilities as well as how to help your toddler through her/his tantrums and strong emotions. During this interactive workshop Rachel will emphasize the importance of understanding and nurturing our children's emotional world while at the same time teaching them skills for developing emotional regulation and kind behavior. Please bring your real life scenarios and questions of interactions with your child during times of challenge.
Offered with support from Jackson Hole Children's Museum!

Youth who experience developmental relationships get better grades, have higher aspirations for the future, and are more engaged and motivated in their academics. These types of relationships with parents, peers, coaches, or other caring adults can also help youth attain psychological and social skills and character strengths essential for life when they leave the home.
Please join Rachel Wigglesworth and other parents to discuss developmental relationships, and how we can engage with our adolescents during times when their behaviors and reactions seem challenging. During this interactive workshop, participants will discuss discipline and relationship strategies that are drawn from brain science and research-backed ideas of what adolescents need and what we as parents need in order to respond calmly to our kids, set important limits, and teach them the skills they need to become thriving adults.
Please come with a discipline or relationship challenge to work on in small groups.
This workshop is free and open to the public, made possible by the Teton County Library Friends and Foundation.
Parents of 0-10 year olds - Workshop Description:Research shows that strong parent-child relationships lead to positive outcomes for children, yet sometimes our children’s behaviors can be infuriating! If discipline means ‘to teach’, how do we respond to our children in a way that teaches them skills for respectful behavior and emotional regulation, while at the same time maintaining a strong relationship? We'll discuss how to maintain the parent-child connection while also holding clear and consistent limits, both of which are critical to your child's development.

Join Rachel Wigglesworth and other parents to discuss how we guide, support, and interact with our children to reach the positive outcomes we hope for them. Rachel will lead parents and teachers through a journey to consider the question of first, “what outcomes do I hope for my child (or the child I teach)?”, and second, “how can I support the child in getting there?” Research suggests that relationships are one of the key aspects in fostering healthy development that promotes positive outcomes, and while we often have strong relationships with our children, there are times when these relationships can be challenged.
