As a birth doula trained at the Seattle Midwifery School, Rachel also provides prenatal and postpartum consultations.
Prenatal Consultations Giving birth is one of the most extraordinary events we experience. Both the anticipation and process of labor and delivery can bring about a variety of emotions in expectant families. Intensity, delight, fear, and joy are all a normal part of birth. Whether you are hoping to have an unmedicated labor or would like pain medication, talking to someone about the details and emotions of labor can help you feel prepared.
Prenatal consultations consist of two 2-hour meetings. During this time, Rachel gives you the "inside scoop" on what you can typically expect during labor and delivery - although no two births are alike! During these meeting we will:
Explore your birth wishes: Rachel will help you clarify your desires for your labor (given the ideal situation).
Discuss your pregnancy – health, concerns, and questions
Pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum education: We will discuss...
What a woman might typically experience through the stages of labor
What kind of support she might need during the different stages of labor
Medical interventions she could be offered, the reasons for them, and their pros and cons
What happens with baby immediately after delivery
Tips & tools to prepare you for childbirth and help you through labor

Postpartum Consultations I have found that couples often spend much time and energy focusing on the pregnancy and birth and little thought on what happens when the baby joins their lives. It can be quite an adjustment moving from self sufficient and independent adults to having a wonderful but helpless infant to care for. Roles and relationships change and parents need to work together to learn about their new baby and discover their own parenting style. Mothers may be overwhelmed from lack of sleep, recovering from their birth, and learning to breastfeed. Baby blues or postpartum mood disorders may creep in.
During postpartum consultations, Rachel supports new parents by offering guidance, education and support to help ease their transition as they embark upon their journey as a new family. During this meeting we will discuss important topics such as:
Breastfeeding
Sleep - for the entire family
New family dynamics
Postpartum moods
Care for baby
Self-care for both parents
Postpartum Package:
One 2-hour postpartum visit
Phone and email contact as desired
Pricing: $125*
If you would like to hire a doula, Rachel is taking on expectant families on a very limited basis. She can also refer you to doulas who are more actively practicing.
